FACTS & CURIOSITIES ABOUT THE REGION
The human presence in the region dates back about 12 thousand years, started by people who took shelter in the caves and grottos of the region and left some records of their passage through cave paintings. Indigenous tribes, descendants of slaves and Europeans who trod these paths in search of the riches of Minas Gerais also made their home here.
The region is considered an important river cradle, contributing to the São Francisco and Rio Doce basins.
The old Estrada Real passed through the region, and some sections can still be seen today.
The region is located where three important biomes meet - Cerrado, Atlantic Forest and Campos Rupestres -, which contributes to its great biodiversity.

HOW TO GET
The Tourist Region of Serra do Cipó is located about 100 km from Belo Horizonte, in the southern region of the Cordillera do Espinhaço.
Coming from Belo Horizonte, land access is via the MG-10 highway (Baldim, Conceição do Mato Dentro, Congonhas do Norte, Jaboticatubas, Morro do Pilar and Santana do Riacho) or the BR-381 (Itambé do Mato Dentro, Nova União and Santa Maria de Itabira).
Confins International Airport is just 60 km away.
