A unique region, formed by municipalities that together have one of the most exuberant natural sets on the planet. Located in the central part of Minas Gerais, here are several Conservation Units created to preserve nature, life and landscapes that fill the eyes of those who witness its beauties.
All this natural beauty is added to several other attractions of the municipalities, uniting in a single region the best of hospitality from Minas Gerais, well-being, gastronomy and culture.
And best of all: the region is located about 100km from Belo Horizonte and 60km from Confins International Airport and is ready to welcome visitors with a wide range of experiences!
FAUNA, FLORA AND RELIEF
The Serra do Cipó Tourist Region is located where 3 important biomes meet - cerrado, Atlantic forest and rocky fields - and has one of the greatest biodiversity in the world. Its natural beauty is so impressive that it was affectionately nicknamed by the landscaper Burle Marx as “The Garden of Brazil”.
Such diversity motivated the creation of several Conservation Units to preserve and allow the study of the rich local fauna and flora, among them the Serra do Cipó National Park, Serra do Intendente State Park, Tabuleiro Municipal Natural Park and the Federal APA Morro da Quarry. The region is also home to part of the Serra do Espinhaço Biosphere Reserve, recognized in 2005 by UNESCO.
Internationally known for its high degree of endemism, the region offers the visitor the opportunity to discover and observe unique species of flora and fauna in the world, with emphasis on the various species of birds that delight observers from all over the world. The large number of springs and the rugged relief have gifted the region with countless waterfalls, canyons, rivers and natural pools of clear water that attract many visitors throughout the year, whether to simply rest and contemplate nature, or to practice any of the various activities of Ecotourism and Adventure Tourism offered in the region, such as: climbing, abseiling, canyoneering, crossings and cycle tourism.
PEOPLE AND CULTURE
The Tourist Region of Serra do Cipó is also home to a people with roots in these lands thousands of years ago, as evidenced by the various cave paintings found throughout the place. Indigenous tribes, descendants of slaves, and Europeans who trod these paths in search of the riches of Minas Gerais also made their home here. Such diversity gave rise to a simple and hospitable people, who stand out for their traditions and their religiosity, in addition to bringing good old “stories” to tell in good conversation in the kitchen, washed down with coffee and cachaça, by the wood stove!
And speaking of cuisine, the region's gastronomy, based on the flavors of the cerrado and the Atlantic forest, is a delicious attraction in itself!

Located in the metropolitan region of Belo Horizonte, right in the heart of Minas Gerais and in the middle of Serra do Espinhaço, the Tourist Region of the Serra do Cipó National Park, made up of the municipalities ofBaldim, Conceição do Mato Dentro, Congonhas do Norte, Itambé do Mato Dentro, Jaboticatubas, Morro do Pilar, Nova União, Santa Maria de Itabira and Santana do Riacho, is considered one of the main tourist regions of Minas Gerais for its unique beauty and its great diversity of attractions, both natural and cultural.

What is the difference between the Serra do Cipó Tourist Region, the Serra do Cipó National Park and the Serra do Cipó district?The Tourist Region of Serra do Cipó encompasses the geographical area that is largely around the Serra do Cipó National Park. strong> It is made up of 9 municipalities and has in its territory a series of attractions that go beyond the natural aspect, contemplating historical buildings, rural properties, typical products, gastronomy and accommodation. The Tourist Circuit Serra do Cipó National Park, also simply called Serra Circuit do Cipó, is an association of the municipalities that make up the region and that have come together to work together on the responsible development of tourism in the region through the implementation of public policies and training of the tourist trade and communities in the region for tourism. The Serra do Cipó National Park - ParNa Serra do Cipó - is a Federal Conservation Unit, managed by the Chico Mendes Institute for Environmental Conservation – ICMBio, with an area of about 34000 hectares. ParNa was created in 1987 with the main objective of preserving the rich natural heritage of the region and has several natural attractions open to public visitation free of charge. The locality called Serra do Cipó (formerly Cardeal Mota), is a district of the municipality of Santana do Riacho and, due to its geographic location and its tourist infrastructure, is considered the gateway to the Tourist Region of Serra do Cipó.

What is the purpose of this website?This site is an initiative of the IGR Circuito Turístico Parque Nacional da Serra do Cipó, an association that has as one of its objectives to promote tourism in an organized manner in the associated municipalities. The site has the function of being the business card of the region as a whole, presenting the interested public with official and reliable information regarding the municipalities, attractions and differentials of the municipalities that make up the area. It is not the purpose of this site to sell packages, make reservations or answer questions about attractions and accommodation. For this, we direct those interested to our partners, which are accredited and approved organizations to receive and serve tourists in the best possible way.
